What is a Condensing Boiler

How does a condensing boiler work and how do they save you money compared to non-condensing boilers?

What is a Condensing Boiler?

Condensing boilers are extremely efficient, making the fuel used to heat your home go further. Replacing an old non-condensing boiler with a brand new condensing boiler and you could save over £300 per year.

What is the difference between condensing boilers and non-condensing boilers?

With non-condensing heat-only boilers, heat is wasted as hot gases are released from the flue. A condensing boiler captures some of this heat and uses it to heat the water in your central heating system. It requires less gas and is more efficient. All new boilers are condensing boilers and so you do not need to choose between them, but there are some reasons why it is a good idea to replace an old boiler with a new, highly efficient model.

Condensing boilers vs non-condensing boilers

Combi and heat-only boilers can both be condensing or non-condensing. Building regulations state that all new boilers in domestic homes should be high-efficiency boilers. A non-condensing boiler takes air in from inside the room, whereas condensing boilers are fully sealed and take in the air directly from outside.

Condensing Boilers are Safer

Condensing boilers are a lot safer than non-condensing boilers as there is a lower risk of anything being sucked inside due to their completely enclosed design. Condensing boilers are also typically at least 25% more efficient than non-condensing boilers.
