What Do The New Covid19 Restrictions Mean For Gas Engineer Visits

The COVID 19 pandemic has turned the world upside down, with restrictions on movement and large groups of people being put into isolation to try and stop the spread of the virus. What does this mean for gas engineer visits?

What Do The New Covid19 Restrictions Mean For Gas Engineer Visits?

Given the current restrictions that have been put in place in order to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, it is essential that any engineer undertaking work in people’s homes still follows all of the public health guidelines:

  • Keeping a minimum of 2 metres away from other people
  • Washing hands frequently for 20 seconds or more
  • Wiping down all surfaces with a disinfectant

This means that gas inspections, including those required by law for landlords, can still go ahead.

Gas Safe Register Inspections

Gas Safe Register Inspectors will continue to undertake inspections where there has been a concern raised, but only in high-priority areas. Routine inspections have ceased. Therefore, it is more important than ever for you only to use an experienced Gas Safe registered engineer for work on your heating system at this time, to reduce your risks.

What if my Heating Breaks Down?

If you have a plumbing or a heating emergency, you can still call your Gas Safe registered plumber for advice. It is still possible to attend call-outs where there is an emergency or where vulnerable people are put at risk.

What If I Smell Gas?

If you smell gas, or you have any concerns at all about gas safety, you should call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999 and switch off gas appliances until a registered gas engineer has attended and advised you that the appliance is safe to use.
