It’s just a few weeks now until Santa fills up his sleigh and delivers all the Christmas presents. It is also a time for warnings: Gas Safe Register has identified that 1 in every 6 gas appliances are unsafe and will put families (and Santa) at risk over Christmas.

Christmas is a time of year when most unsafe gas appliances are found in UK homes, with one in every six cookers, boilers and gas fires that the fire service investigates being found to be unsafe and carrying a risk of gas leaks, fires, explosions or deadly carbon monoxide poisoning.

Jonathan Samuel, chief executive of Gas Safe Register, said: “Christmas is a special time of the year and families will get together and relax at home. However, Christmas can also go wrong if gas appliances are unsafe. Our data shows that December is the month where unsafe gas appliances are often found. We would urge families to make sure that they have an annual gas safety check before Christmas so they can enjoy the festivities with peace of mind.”

Gas Safety Guidance
