How to Clean Tough Shower Stains

Start by removing all the shower gels, shampoos and soap from the area then gather the equipment you need. Open the bathroom window or switch on the extractor fan while you’re cleaning, and do avoid mixing different chemicals. Keep it simple!

Deal With Tough Stains

If you clean your shower tiles with a regular rinse and wipe, soap scum will build up and cause discolouration, stains and mould. You can remove such stains with just bicarbonate of soda, cling film and masking tape…

• Mix three parts water and one part bicarbonate of soda in a bowl, forming a paste. You need enough to generously coat every stain
• Put on some rubber gloves and put the paste directly on the stains.
• Once you have applied to the stains, cover the mixture with cling film – fixing it in place with masking tape
• Leave for 24 hours, then rinse away the next day and wipe the tiles with a damp cloth.

Remove mould and mildew

Moist, warm air makes for perfect conditions for mould and mildew. Here’s how to get rid of it:

Using Vinegar

• Spritz on distilled white vinegar and leave for an hour
• Scrub it off with a brush
• Wipe over with a damp cloth.

Using Bicarbonate of soda

• Mix ¼ of a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda and water into a spray bottle
• Spritz onto the mould and scrub it with a brush
• Wipe over with a damp cloth then leave to dry.
