Eliminate all the following issues and you’ll be sure that your radiators are operating at maximum efficiency:

Cold spots

The first thing to eliminate is any cold spots, which are often caused by air bubbles. The cold spots if this is the case will be found at the top of the radiator in question. Such cold spots can be easily resolved by bleeding the radiator.

Do I need a powerflush?

If the cold spots are at the bottom of your radiator, it’s probably down to a build-up of sludge in your central heating. This is a bigger issue that will need a system cleanse. Some other symptoms that may indicate a powerflush would be beneficial are:

• Boiler constantly needs to be restarted
• The heating takes a long time to heat up
• Cold radiators but hot pipes
• Cold spots on your radiators, especially at the bottom
• Discoloured water when radiators are bled
• Frequent breakdowns
• Noisy radiators and boiler
• Radiator leaks
• Some of your radiators seem to struggle to heat up
• The radiators require constant bleeding
