Gas Fired Condensing System In A Detached Family Home

A good solution for replacing your existing heating system with a more energy-efficient alternative is by having a new gas condensing boiler installed. Amongst the fossil fuel energy sources, gas is the most eco-friendly choice as it leaves no residue. New boiler technology uses a condensing effect, so heat in the extracted air is recovered and reused. This saves up to a third of the energy use and reduces costs for a standard detached family home.

Gas fired condensing system in a detached family home

The Smith family live in a three-bedroom detached home with a single bathroom. They currently have a combi boiler to provide heating and hot water. The boiler is more than ten years old and has been repaired several times in recent years. Mr Smith is now looking to replace the ageing combi, which will also improve the efficiency of the heating and hot water.

Mr Smith’s installer recommends fitting a new Vaillant ecoTEC exclusive combi boiler, which will ensure better hot water performance than the current boiler, and dramatically decrease their fuel bills. This combi boiler increases the temperature of the cold water from 10 degrees to 14 degrees, meaning the boiler delivers hot water more efficiently, saving energy. It results in a ten percent saving in hot water mode over a year. Although this boiler is around £200 more expensive than the equivalent standard model, Mr Smith realised he could save £30 per month on heating and hot water – so the additional cost would be paid back within the first year.

As it was a straight swap over, the work was able to be completed by his Gas Safe registered installer in a single day, and the new boiler is so quiet that he cannot hear it when it fires up. The Smiths also had a vSMART system installed, further increasing efficiency and enabling them to control heating and hot water from a mobile app.
