• Is the power supply to the boiler switched on? There is usually an isolation switch for the heating system, (it is often situated near the boiler or its clock) so make sure it is turned to its ‘on’ position.
• Is the gas supply to your home on? Check the Emergency Control Valve by the gas meter; sometimes it can accidentally be knocked to the off position. There will be a label on it indicating which way is ‘open’.
• Is your boiler on? Make sure its lights are all illuminated, and that the display looks right.
• If your boiler has got a pilot light, check it is lit. If not, you can re-light it by following its instructions.
• If your boiler doesn’t have a pilot light, look out for a warning light asking you to ‘reset’ the boiler.
• Does the boiler have a warning light or message saying “low water pressure”? This can be resolved by following the manufacturer’s instructions and refilling it.
• Is your central heating timer or programmer on? Check the display is present, and that the correct time is shown.
• Is the room thermostat set to a sufficiently high temperature? Make sure your thermostat is set at a high enough level to turn on the heating, most houses will be comfortable at 21 degrees.
• If you#ve checked all the above items and still have not got any heating, it is time to think about calling a Gas Safe Registered heating engineer.
