Consider A Powerflush This Easter
You may have heard of a powerflush but you might not be sure what it involves. What is a powerflush and why might you consider a powerflush this Easter? Let us help to explain…
Consider A Powerflush This Easter
As time go by, debris gradually builds up inside your central heating system’s pipes and radiators. It gradually reduces the system’s efficiency. Particularly large buildups eventually lead to boiler breakdowns –and these can be expensive to fix. A powerflush is a technique that removes this sludge out of your central heating system and gets it running properly again.
Do I Need a Powerflush?
Some of the signs a powerflush may be needed this Easter are:
- Black water leaking out of the radiators
- The radiators only heat up at the top
- The loft header tank is beginning to overflow
- The effectiveness of your central heating system has gradually reduced
It is a good idea to have a powerflush when you have a new boiler installed onto an old central heating system, because all the rest of the radiators and pipes will have seen many years use, and should the sludge make its way back into the new boiler it will be adversely affected.
What Does a Powerflush Involve?
Powerflushing is done with a machine called a “pumping station”. It removes all the dirty sludge and replaces it with clean water. It can take an hour and a half or more for a plumber to completely clear your central heating system –depending on how many tricky areas there are to clean. Once the system is clear, a special chemical inhibitor is added to the water in the system to reduce build ups and prevent corrosion in the future.
Who Can Do a Powerflush?
A Powerflush should only be done by a trained Gas Safe Registered plumbing and heating engineer. It can be done as a standalone task or form a regular part of your annual central heating checks.
