Choosing a Boiler For An Apartment Block
When your boiler breaks down and it needs replacing, it can be difficult to choose the right one for your home. Here is our handy guide to choosing a boiler for an apartment…
Choosing a Boiler For An Apartment
Choosing the wrong boiler could result in inadequate heating or expensive energy bills. There are a few things to consider when choosing a boiler for an apartment:
- Boiler type
- Output
- Physical size
- Efficiency
- Warranty
Size of Boilers for an Apartment
Boiler output is measured in kilowatts (kW) rather than the dimensions of the boiler. Kilowatts are the amount of energy that is put out by the boiler as heat. The size of boiler for your home depends on how much hot water you need as well as the number radiators you have. Generally, the larger the demand for heat and hot water, the higher the output required.
Combi Boilers for Apartments
A combination – ‘combi’ – boiler is a gas boiler which combines water heating and central heating into a single body. It produces instant hot water so doesn’t need a hot water tank. One benefit of combi boilers is that they take up less room in your home than system or regular boilers.
System Boilers for Apartments
System boilers take water directly from the mains as opposed to via a feed and expansion tank. Like a regular boiler they produce hot water that is kept in a storage cylinder.
Regular Boilers for Apartments
Regular – also called ‘conventional’ or ‘heat only’ – boilers don’t provide domestic hot water on demand like combi boilers. Instead, they store the hot water in a cylinder. An advantage of this arrangement is that they are able to meet a higher demand for hot water simultaneously in different rooms, making them ideal if you have multiple bathrooms. The disadvantage is that when the hot water runs out, you have to wait for it to fill again.
