Fix Low Shower Water Pressure
There are many causes of low water pressure, a lot of which will be out of your control. There are some ways to improve your water pressure, though.
Fix Low Shower Water Pressure
There are several ways you might be able to increase the pressure of your shower. Follow our checklist to find the right solution.
Check for leaks
If you have low water pressure throughout the house, you may have a leak. Consider calling a plumber to check the pressure and identify any leaks that are not obvious.
Check for shower head sediment
If you have had your shower for a while, limescale and sediment may have built up in the showerhead and obstructed the water flow. To clear it, unscrew the showerhead from its hose and immerse it in a bowl of vinegar overnight. Then remove any remaining debris with an old toothbrush and use a toothpick to push limescale out of the holes. If that doesn’t work, it’s probably time to replace your showerhead.
Ensure your stop tap is fully open
If your hot water comes from a combi boiler, water pressure is controlled by a tap. Check the boiler manual to locate it and make sure it is fully open. The water pressure gauge should be at least 1 bar.
Install a shower pump
If you have a gravity-fed heating system (with a cold water tank and hot water cylinder) consider having a shower pump installed or changing your shower to a power shower with a pump built-in.
