Then you can have peace of mind that everything is running safely and efficiently for your Christmas roast.

Unsafe gas appliances can be at risk of gas leaks, fires and even explosions. They can also cause deadly carbon monoxide poisoning. You should not ever attempt to work on a gas appliance yourself: always ask a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer to do your annual safety check to ensure gas appliances are safe.

Know the Signs of a Dangerous Gas Appliance

The signs to look out for, which mean a gas appliance might be unsafe are:

• burning with a lazy yellow flame
• the pilot light often goes out
• there is increased condensation inside your windows
• you find black marks near or on the appliance

Steps to Staying Gas Safe

• Only ever use a qualified, Gas Safe registered engineer
• Check out both the front and the back of your engineer’s Gas Safe Register card to ensure they are qualified to work on your specific gas appliances
• Get every gas appliance serviced and safety checked regularly – at least once per year

Know the signs of CO poisoning;

• Breathlessness
• Collapse
• Dizziness
• Headaches
• Loss of consciousness
• Nausea
