Taking Care Of Your Gas Appliances
If your home has gas appliances, you need to be aware of the risks and the importance of taking care of them.
Taking Care Of Your Gas Appliances
Poorly serviced gas appliances or badly fitted gas appliances can cause fires, explosions and leaks of gas or deadly carbon monoxide (CO). By taking care of your gas appliances you are taking care of your loved ones as well as your home. Here are some really simple checks that can keep your family safe.
Check gas appliances annually
All of your homes gas appliances should be checked for safety annually and serviced by a Gas Safe registered engineer on a regular basis. If you are a tenant then your landlord will arrange this.
Check that your engineer is registered with Gas Safe
It is required by law that your engineer is Gas Safe registered. Gas Safe ensures any work carried out in your home is safe, legal and professional. You can check your engineer’s credentials at GasSafeRegister.co.uk.
Check your engineer is qualified for the gas work you need
Engineers may be qualified to work with natural gas, domestic boilers and more. You can find this information on the reverse side of their Gas Safe ID card and it is also listed on the Gas Safe Register website.
Check for the warning signs that indicate your appliances are unsafe
Danger signs can include a lazy yellow or orange flame instead of a crisp blue one, black marks on or around the gas appliance, a pilot light that goes out constantly and excessive condensation in the room.
