What is Boiler Plus?

Boiler Plus is a legislation that was implemented on 6th April 2018. Boiler Plus is there to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the United Kingdom by improving the efficiency of the heating systems that are installed within them. If you have an older boiler, it can soon pay for itself with the savings that can be made from installing a newer, more energy-efficient central heating system.

What is Boiler Plus?

Since April 2018, all boilers have had to have a minimum ErP efficiency rating of 92% and all new installations must have to have time and temperature controls fitted if such controls are not already present and working correctly in the old system.

Combi boilers, the most popular type of boilers in the United Kingdom, now also require one of four additional requirements. These measures are:

Load compensation – intelligent communication to modulate the water temperature from the boiler that is based on the temperature in the actual rooms that are being supplied.

Weather compensation – this is a system that will intelligently modulate the temperature of water from the boiler based on the temperature outside.

Smart control – this control allows for full automation and enhanced boiler efficiency.

FGHR (Flue Gas Heat Recovery) – this is a way in which the boiler can redirect flue gases that would otherwise be lost to heat up the water inside the boiler.
