Will Your Boiler Break This Winter?
Will your boiler break this winter? If you’ve made it through winter without your boiler failing, it is reassuring to know that you’ve got through the riskiest months for boiler breakdowns. If your boiler is still working at the end of February, the chances of it needing a costly repair decrease significantly. But why risk your boiler breaking down when a service will ensure it is running smoothly? Read our article in full to find out more…
Will your boiler break this winter?
You will not be surprised at all to hear that your boiler is more likely to break down when it’s cold outside. This is because it’s used more, and also because one of the most common faults – the condensate pipe freezing – only occurs when it is freezing outside. Modern boilers have a pipe that drips condensation into an outside drain. When the temperature drops below zero, these pipes can freeze, and the boiler shuts down as a precaution. So, if your boiler breaks in a cold snap, this should be the first thing checked.
Why you should get your boiler serviced
We cannot tell you too often how important it is to have your boiler serviced annually. You wouldn’t expect your car to work fault-free without a service, and the same goes for boilers. They need regular maintenance by a professional to keep in working order. An annual service costs about £80, and skipping it invalidates the boiler’s warranty.
Boiler manufacturer warranties
There’s a big difference in the length of warranties from different boiler manufacturers. Some manufacturers now offer up to 12-year warranties. This makes it important not to be short-changed with a two-year warranty when you buy a boiler.
