What You Need To Know About The Cold Weather Payment
Cold Weather Payments are not the same thing as Winter Fuel Payments. You may be entitled to Cold Weather Payments if you receive certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest. You get the payment when the average temperature in your area is either recorded as, or forecast to be, 0° Celsius or less for seven consecutive days or more.
How Much is the Cold Weather Payments?
You get paid £25 for each seven-day period of extremely cold weather between the dates 1st November and 31st March. After every period of very cold weather in your area between those dates, you should get your payment within two weeks. It is paid into the same bank or building society account that your benefit payments are paid into. Any Cold Weather Payments you get will not affect any of your other benefits.
Who Can Get Cold Weather Payments?
You may be entitled to a Cold Weather Payments if you get one or more of these benefits:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
With some of these benefits, you only get the cold weather payments if you also have one of the following:
- a pensioner premium
- a severe or enhanced disability premium
- Child Tax Credit including a disability or severe disability element
- a child who is disabled
- a child who is under the age of 5 living with you
