Barbeque Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Danger!

Barbeque Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Danger!

Half the nation plans on having on average five barbeques for their family and friends this summer. Gas Safe Register has issued a stark reminder to be aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide gas is known as the ‘silent killer’ as it has no colour, taste or smell and can in some cases be fatal.

Research has shown that the majority of people in the UK do not realise carbon monoxide poisoning is a potential danger when barbecuing. In fact, carbon monoxide poisoning was found to be only slightly ahead of damaging the garden or plants as a danger when barbequing!

Barbeque safety tips:

  • Never use a barbeque indoors.
  • Don’t take a lit or smouldering barbeque inside a cabin, caravan or tent.
  • Always ensure you can see your barbeque & don’t leave it lit while you are sleeping.
  • Follow the manufacturers operating instructions.
  • Be aware of any signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. Symptoms include headaches, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness and loss of consciousness.

If you think you or someone else has carbon monoxide poisoning, get away from the appliance – outdoors if possible – and call 999 immediately.
