Here are some tips to cut your Wigan Home Heating costs:
1. Install thermostatic radiator valves
Thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) are the controls on your radiator that control the flow of water in and out of the radiator rather than the boiler itself. The benefit of TRVs is that they allow you to have different temperatures in different parts of your home. For example, you can keep the bedrooms cooler than the living room by simply adjusting the TRVs to different settings.
2. Use a seven-day, programmable thermostat
Programmable thermostats are getting cheaper and can be easily fitted to your system. Because they have different routines each day of the week, they save you energy by only heating your home when you want to. They can be used to turn down the temperature when you are away from home. They are better than mechanical thermostats which do not allow for fine tuning and they can reduce your heating bill by up to 10 percent.
3. Try weather compensation controls
Weather compensation controls use a thermostat on an outside, north facing wall. It sends feedback on the temperature outside to the boiler to fine tune the temperature. A weather compensation system will not suit everyone – the radiators do not get very hot, for example, when the boiler maintains a steady temperature indoors as temperatures change outdoors.
4. Use your controls effectively
Most central heating controls need to be configured properly to suit your lifestyle. Spending a couple of hours learning to use your thermostat will save money over its lifetime.
5. Ensure you have the right boiler for your home
If you have more than one bathroom, then a standard combi boiler may not be the best way to supply your bathrooms with hot water. Ask your
Wigan Central Heating Engineers about having a pressurised hot water cylinder system installed.
6. Give your system a regular check-up
You should have your boiler serviced annually. Ask your
Wigan plumbers and
plumbers St Helens to give the whole system a once-over as rusted pipes and air-filled radiators will not heat your home properly.
